When Peter is communicating with others, this 3D image on the screen on his chest will also interact with them, making various expressions such as smiling, frowning, nodding, etc. When Peter's face is expressionless due to the loss of motor function in his facial muscles, this image can make the person he is communicating with feel more at ease.
